Trees Seeking A King (Parable) Poem by Randy McClave

Trees Seeking A King (Parable)

The trees once all gathered together
They were all looking for them a king,
A tree for them to anoint over all of them
To rule over them and everything.
First the trees all went to the olive tree
Asking the olive tree, will you please be king over us,
May we anoint you as our lord
And then be our king and thus.
But, the olive tree said that it just couldn't
It's oils is used to honor gods and man,
Should I just stop making my oil to be a king
The olive tree then said, find another tree who can.
Then the trees went over to the fig tree
Saying unto it please come and be over us and rule,
The fig tree said, should I stop making my sweet fruit to govern over you
To become something more than just God's tool.
Then the trees came up to the vine
Asking the vine will it reign over all of them,
But, the vine answered my wine makes men and kings happy
Because of me, both men and kings will sing a happy hymn.
Finally all the trees came up to the thorn-bush
Come, please be our king to the thorn-bush they all said,
If you want me to be your king first come find shelter in my shade
But, if you don't want to, let the fire from the thorn-bush burn the cedar trees of Lebanon dead.
