Treed Poem by George Hunter

Treed

There was a young girl up a tree
And she was a wondrous sight to see.
Just why she was there
In her underwear
Was sure a mystery to me.

Perhaps she thinks she’s a cat
Or something strange like that.
So all alone
Like a queen on a throne.
I wish she’d come down for a chat.

“You seem a lady of some renown
And I could drive you back to town
But if you want to stay
I’ll just go away
I’d be glad to help you come down.”

She just said, “Oh, no.
I have troubles that just won’t go.
I’ll just rest for a spell
And all will be well.
But you can get me some antipasto.”
So not to be rude
I got her the food
And a smoke of some good tobacco.

She said, “Please climb up my tower
We’ll make sweet love in my bower.”
So I fulfilled her wish
What heavenly bliss
And I stayed in that tree by the hour.

Now that this tryst is over
I feel like I’m rolling in clover.
I said, 'Please call me
When you’re up a tree
And I’ll be so glad to come over.”
