Too Asleep Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Too Asleep

Too asleep to be conscious of it.
Too accustomed to drift.
And easily duped to trick and distract.
With a mind seldom used.
Switched often to off.
That could prevent such attacking acts.

Too long gone,
From thoughts deep to think.
Too disinterested in how that is done.
Too on the surface.
And shallow at best.
Too asleep to be awake baited to await it.
