Today I Am Poem by GEN Nelson

Today I Am

Swinging
Flinging
My heart against the wall
Wishing
Waiting
I might rise from this fall

One week ago I was a comet
Flying high above the atmosphere
Today I sleep at every hour
Never minding what I see or hear

My brain has a kink, you see
Sometimes my days are blinding
Other times my nights are cold
I become a crone, shaky and old

When the sun is shining white
And I grow into a goddess
My mind is filled with light
I am strong and fearless

But when the canvas is switched out
The fire is extinguished
Washed with shades of gray
And dragging linguistics

However, there are moments
Brief periods of relief
I'm in a better space
No more disbelief

Over and under
Soaring then plunder
Valleys and hills
It's up to my will

To catch the falling star
To help the little girl lost
Hope is near and far
Sometimes out of touch

Now on this seesaw from hell
This chemical carousal
This ugly roller-coaster
Jump from pill to pill

I might shake and cry and long to die
But today I am fine

Today I am fine
