Dear Dad Poem by GEN Nelson

Dear Dad

Dear Dad,

The one who's so crazy,
The one who has The Look,
The one who first inspired me
To fill my room with books;

The one who took my hand
To teach me how to catch dinner,
The one who reminded me
That I'll always be a winner;

The one who sang with me,
And made me forget my fears,
The one who cradled me,
And knew there was more to life than tears;

The one who created life
In a corner of dirt,
The one who nurtured my own life
In my times of deep hurt;

The one who's not skinny,
The one who's not fat,
The one who dresses like a sultan
In his onion head hat;

The one who crab-walks the room,
The one who sprung me off his knee,
The one who knew I wouldn't listen,
So he taught me to see;

The one who makes me laugh,
The one who makes me smile,
The one who one day will
Walk me down the isle,

I love you.
That's all I wanted to say.
So hold your head high—
This is your day.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
Some may have noticed that there is a reference to the song 'Comfort Eagle' by Cake, and I'd like to inform the audience that that song is kind of a theme for my dad and me. The lines used are our favorite, and we reference them often, so I felt it was appropriate to mention them in a father's day poem.
