Today Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Today

Today

‘Today' is just a word
A Black poet writes of
When repeating a lullaby
Of the past…

A Black poet writes of her wish
To know what the freedom truly is
And to be able to break the chains.

‘Today' is not just a word
When I recall Santa Cruz
The Guarantees in Bolivia
"And how are we going to…? "

They want the chains to remain
They wanted to be taken care of as slaves
As I want to remain under ‘Eighteen…'

Never
Never
Never
I wanted to be wise and sane
Never
Never
Never

Let others bear the burden
And I, remain dependent.
Let the police call my dad
Let them call my Mom:
"He is a child, a minor."

But when talking of death
Since I am a child, insane
I want a sudden death
Want to be droned
As was leader of
The Taliban.

I want to be a bird, a deer
Shot with a hot bullet of the gun…
