They Gave Their All Poem by Mark Heathcote

They Gave Their All

Lovers, at times, must recognize each other's soul
Lovers, at times, must devour each other whole
They must writhe in the flesh they are given
And explore one another like oil on the vine
They must press every last drop of heaven
And walk with a step that feels to them divine.

No matter their age or how late, they must be intoxicated
Lovers, at times, must burn like the sun uninhibited
And fall into a trance without any regret or despair
No reason to explain or feel dispirited
That they are willing to lose and declare
They gave their all. I gave my life on this, I swear.
