The Weight Poem by Deborah Dalton

The Weight

Rating: 5.0

Heavy, bulky, cumbersome, and limp
An awkward and profane monument
Mine to bear
As I laid bare my violated soul
Exhaustive exhibition disclosed

Screaming with silence
To hearts numb to my voice
Arrogant accomplices
As the choir grows
Singing shame-filled melodies

I was not the author of this horror
But, I am left to edit
And market this epic book
Pages of misery
Adorned with grotesque typesetting
Emphasized, italicized, and bold

Breathing the same air
Walking on the same stones
Until the danger is removed from home
Dorothy is accurate about the originality
No place like it, no place to freely roam

This burden is shared collectively
Whether known or unknown
Ownership is not in question
The meek need their power
The privileged needs to be entombed
