The Survivor Poem by David Blair

The Survivor

Rating: 5.0

How wonderful
she said
You're 85.
What a long life.

Long...yes.
I'm a survivor
and my body
aches a lot.

My mind only
works fitfully
and one thing
she should understand.

Being a survivor
I had to see
a generation
vanish around me.

Family and friends
all departed
to the great
unknown forever.

I am still
here but
at what
an emotional price.
