The Survivor

How wonderful
she said
You're 85.
What a long life.

Long...yes.
I'm a survivor
and my body
aches a lot.

My mind only
works fitfully
and one thing
she should understand.

Being a survivor
I had to see
a generation
vanish around me.

Family and friends
all departed
to the great
unknown forever.

I am still
here but
at what
an emotional price.

The Door

You reach an age (old)
when you're in a waiting room.
Don't confuse this with
a doctor's surgery
where you might (might)
be cured.
This is something else.
