The Search

Rating: 5.0

I walked along the shore to find some shells
But found none - they all had sunk
to the bottom of the ocean

I took a walk in search of memories
But they were buried
Deep beneath the sea

I walked along the shore
in search of shells
Instead.. I found a little girl
Who told me it was time we said goodbye
And finally to leave it all behind

I walked along the shore
To find some peace of mind
I found no shells
But I carried home a smile

All these lines are so plaintive and perfectly understated. I love each line so much.

A gentle letting go, finely crafted and perfectly voiced. For some reason I am reminded of some of e e cummings' work - and that's high praise indeed! Love, Allie ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

Such a creative descriptive way of coming to terms with past memories and moving forward. The shells make a beautiful image in mind as having spent so much of my childhood on a beach, I can relate to this poem so well. 10 Karin Anderson
