The Sea That Night Poem by Emenike Ikolodo

The Sea That Night

Rating: 4.5

We spent so little time together
But somehow, after so long, I still
remember you, my long-ago lover.
In arms, we walked the narrow empty beach
Till the soft sand seduced our feet.
We sat to watch the shivering moon beam reach
To split the quiescent sea apart like a zip track
Pealing down a debutante's evening dress,
Unwrapping the pale arch of her slender back.
Bouquets of blue colossus clouds pressed
Inquiring eyes through a gossamer moon
To lust at our audacious nakedness.
The sea sprayed mist and hissed a sleepy tune
Tired waves collapsed frothing on the dunes.
