The Rath Yatra Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

The Rath Yatra

The rath of Jagannatha will tumble
From the temple
And the deities,
Jagannatha, Balabhadra, Subhadra will come out
Seated on the ratha,
The chariot drawn by people,
All and sundry following,
The gigantic ratha,
The gargantuan crowds
Taking the name of Jagannatha,
Balabhadra and Subhadra
And going
In piety and devotion.

Hare Krishna, hare Krishna,
Hare, hare,
Hare Rama,
Rama, Rama, hare, hare,
People will keep singing
And the ratha in procession
Will proceed on
Towards onward journey
With the idols,
The puppet-like grotesque statues
Or images on the ratha.

The decorated rathas
Looking like temples
With the idols seated
Will tumble down
With the people following
And pulling the ratha
For to take to another temple
From where will return it
After a few days
Taking the return journey
To be back to.
