The Race Poem by Casey O'Sheridan

The Race

Keen ears pinned back attentively
Eager pawing of dusty earth
Nodding head longing to be freed
Heart hammering against the girth

Coat shimmering a sweaty sheen
Majestic muscles strongly hewn
Mouth white with anticipation
Eyes dancing to an unearthly tune

One lucky being dares to ask
To share this creatures very mind
Inexplicable connection
For but a moment two entwined

Then amazingly it is so!
Into one skin these spirits meld
Like a raindropp shooting downward
Daring to be captured and held

Racing to outrun their shadow
The harmonized duo flies on
Barely escaping the winds grasp
Not to cease ‘til they catch the dawn
