The Poets Mind Their Poetry Poem by Denis Martindale

The Poets Mind Their Poetry

The poets mind their poetry some treasure to create,
To mimic God's divinity and thus illuminate,
Perhaps to bring new light to bear upon this earthly sphere,
So those who read may find insight that helps to make things clear.
For life can be a sorry state, a challenge daily faced,
A heavy weight to tolerate as memories are traced.

Yet poetry can act as food that feeds each hungered soul,
A soothing serving switches mood that somehow makes us whole.
A winsome word, a friendly phrase, a whisper or a shout,
Philosophies that can replace the ones that made us doubt.
Some limerick that makes us smile, or tall tale smoothly told,
Exquisite words displaying style with wonders to behold.

And who knows if a poem heals, if show tunes leave us bored,
Perhaps with wisdom that reveals a blessing from the Lord?
Some poets shy away from truths that God would seek to share,
As if they lack the perfect proofs that only come through prayer.
The poets mind their poetry some treasure to create,
Yet God would preach of Calvary before it gets too late.
