The More Heartrending The Better Kimiko Learned Poem by Ahmad Shiddiqi

The More Heartrending The Better Kimiko Learned

The more heartrending the better Kimiko learned
The only poem clear to her was
That she preferred rhymed verses of love

At three o'clock
After drinking a cup of tea
She left to visit her friend

She with all of her fifteen years behind her
Accepted with a gentle hand conscious that every step
Of the freedom she won was for the sake of love

(dedicated to a great poet, Gwendolyn Brooks)
