The Meaning Of A Key Poem by Sherri Vogel

The Meaning Of A Key

She knew her time was over
God was calling her away
But before she left forever
There were certain words to say.
So she reached inside her pocket
And pulled out a shiny key
And placed it gently in his hand
And said, 'keep this safe for me.'
You see I'm going somewhere
Very far away
And I want you to hold a part of me
As you travel on your way.
It's a key that means forever
It's a key that means don't cry
It's a key that means I love you
But it also means goodbye.
The key will be a symbol
That will make you think of me
And times in life between us
That just weren't meant to be.
The key will mean move forward
Don't look back on what is gone
Because everything that lives must die
And life somehow moves on.
He kissed her very softly
As tears fell from his eyes
And she said, 'I'll always love you'
And that was her last goodbye.
He kept holding her hand tightly
Asking how can this really be
The only thing God left of her is the
'Meaning of a Key.'
