The Little One Poem by Annapurna Sharma

The Little One

Rating: 5.0

With the first rays of dawn
She dived into the thicket
Pecked at the scattered worms
Belched after a hearty meal
Perched on a low branch
Chirped with browned flocks
Dashed into the poodle of water
Splashed till feathers drenched
Preened on the lemon tree
Flew to the paddy field
Munched on tender grain
Rested under the tinned roof
Sipped water from the bird bath
Searched for slimy worms in the bush
Gulped a few more drops from the pond
Waited for fellow friends in the shade
Flew back to the sheltered nest
Stood on the threshold
As dusk descended
Ducked inside for a sound night
To get up again next morn
My little browned feathered friend
Their numbers declined
Am I to blame?
For the use of gadgets
I dunno the answer
I look out of my window
To spot a little one someday
I miss my dear and cute friend
The little Sparrow!

You describe a perfect friend! I hope that friendship is renewed, and renewed with many.... The meter is just magnificent. A great poem. And welcome to PH.
