The Laughs Of The Innocents Poem by Hebert Logerie

The Laughs Of The Innocents

I saw my daughter laughed
I got nervous
I saw my granddaughter laughed
I got very serious
As a Black man, I would love to see
The children of my grandkids. This society
Is very scary and unpredictable
Death is invisible and inevitable
At times. But dying prematurely
Is painful and unacceptable
I would love to laugh, but I cannot
Because I am concerned. I am not a nut
I am very smart. I want to laugh innocently
Like my children. This is a crazy society
COVID-19 is still killing our brothers and sisters
Nobody is safe, yet we must unseat the critters
Who are destroying our lives. Black lives matter
All lives are precious and priceless. I am a father
I love being a father. I abhor injustice
I want justice for the victims. I want peace.
