The Last Few Miles Poem by Patricia Gale

The Last Few Miles

Rating: 5.0

The last few miles of the way
Seeming to linger for eternity
My soul grows weary
A whisper is heard in the wind
And I know He is beside me

The tears they fall like ever ceasing rain
The burden heaver than before
Not able to withstand the load
Then I hear a soft whisper in the wind
And I know He is with me

I stumble and fall
My legs weary from this heavy load
I no longer wish to carry on
I feel the soft breeze carry the whisper
And I know He is beside me

A sword has cut right through my heart
Betrayed by the ones I love
Tears and cries for help fill my being
I hear and gentle voice and an invisible hand
And I know He is with me

I don’t wish to go on, I can’t!
Devastation and heartache consume my soul
My fist clinches and I pound the path
Why have you deserted me….It’s too much to carry!
Then the whisper speaks more than before…….

Much more than I, The Son of God bore?
Remember I will never leave you I am always with you
My Comforter has been by your side every step of the way…
I will not give you more than you can bear…
You only needed to ask for strength

It's said that the Lord never gives us a load we are not able to bear, pushing us to the limit to test our inner strength... I truly believe that. You have painted a vivid picture which accompanies that message perfectly, most poignant and deep. Love it - very clever and thoughtful. HG: -) xx
