The Greying Of Greenness Poem by Soubhagyabanta Maharana

The Greying Of Greenness

The Greying of Greenness
Soubhagyabanta Maharana
In the verdant foliage
trees gradually turn into
scions of cursed skeletons
affected by chemical gases
being baffled in the struggle for existence.

The identity of a
scintillating greenness
has become a remote reality
following pollution of factories.
Seldom we find
The cooing of cuckoos
to haunt our hearts
amid the mango grove
beside the murmuring of a brook.

How can one ponder over
when green leafy trees
look like dry and dreary woods
generating crisis of credence
To imagine a deadly desert
amidst the dense forest.

The demon of rapid industrialization
devoured blood and tears
of countless displaced persons
shattering their dreams to pieces.
In the wake of industrial progress
battered bodies of poor people
are found uncared and unwept
swindled by empty promises
of big boss around them.
