The Game Poem by Lisa Teres Fraser

The Game

I tried not to submit
I tried to shelter myself from the pain
But you broke down my walls
I became the challenge
A pawn in your game
I tried to play
You gave me reason to believe
And you continued the game
Continued your pursuit
In time you found more players

Did I not play properly?
Did you find out my strategy?
Was I too inexperienced?

You think you have won the game
But I am not done yet
I may be a pawn in your game
But the Queen in mine
Checkmate
