The Daniel Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

The Daniel

The Daniel

Went to meet Daniel
Can say: "Is bad behaved."

Dan told me of Sumas:
"He lived there, had a hut.
Knows well of mountain top."

Meant to ask him about
Right place to set up
Camera, in the fog or cloud
For viewing downtown.

He lives in grey van
Collecting bottles, cans.

Was busy gathering
Everything that he had.

"Soon it rains, and I must
Gather things, pull the tarp! "
He said, was impolite.

I had asked Dan, he said
I could go, take picture
On Sumas, the Mountain!

"There, " he said: "Is catwalk,
Danny knows, had a hut! "

He gathers lots of junk
In parking of Walmart…

Anyway, I made it
Stories has that hill
Of tarps and plastic.

I observed the homeless
Cherishing freedom,
No trace of bound, chain
Of laws for citizens
Of city, mall, pavements.
