The Color Of My Debt Poem by Randy McClave

The Color Of My Debt

Rating: 5.0

She'll pay me back she said
Once that she's out of the red,
And when that time is serene
She promised she would pay me back my green,
I heard that now she was in the black
But, she still hasn't paid me back,
Maybe her words have faded and are now all yellow
Because she borrowed money from me, that fellow,
The man that she is now with always did quiver
Whenever she had asked or begged him for silver,
And when her financial needs to me were told
I happily and wantingly loaned her the help of gold,
Now because of her my life is all brown
As she had financially turned it upside down,
Now I heard that she is happy and in the pink
Now what am I to really and truly think,
Because of her beautiful skin of tan
For her I withdrew money from my 401K plan,
And when I saw her hair of blonde
I cashed in my savings bond,
Now I think and I worry and I hearten
All that I see now is when I think of her is tartan,
Paying me back she had wrote me that she would do
She lied, now I am broke and I am sad and blue.

It's wonderful how you bring in so many color words, adding a playful touch to what otherwise could be a miserable situation. I am intrigued by the word " tartan." Perhaps tartan is a color pattern indicating that someone has gumption to stand up for himself like Braveheart.5 stars for your rainbow of words.
