The City In The Dark Poem by Daniel Pace

The City In The Dark

In a city or murderers, crooks, and thieves
Where chivalry and honor were long past beliefs,
a man walked alone
with an expression of stone.
He saw the cruelty in the world
The shattered dreams of the boys and girls
He looked to the corpses on the ground
and suffering of the masses all around.
He saw the panic, desperation and more
The wickedness of man that struck the world at its core.
The man looked, but shed not a tear
at the cries of the peoples blood-lust and fear.
He looked to the grimy blood-stained streets
and into a future that looked so bleak.
In streets if anguish with many lives gone
the man just walks, carrying on
Then he did something not seen in a great while,
he looked about him and began to smile!
For he is a light in the tunnel of dark
where the taint of evil had not yet left its mark
for in a world of people struggling to cope
he acts as a blazing beacon of hope
whatever he touches becomes infinitely blessed
he is no go, nor angel, he is less.
He is only a man, standing alone
who entered the darkness with an expression of stone
but this man was hopeful, and stayed as such.
As he blessed the suffering with only his touch
the man brought life back into the world
and revived the dreams of the boys and girls.
He buried the corpses upon the ground
and brought back life all around.
When the world looked too horrid to cope,
the man showed the people how to love and hope.
His essance lingered there in the hope that he'd shown
as the man walks to the next town, still alone
with an expression of stone
