The Call Poem by David Olughu

The Call

Wake up you sinful world
Hearken this day to my word
For you have forsaken the commandments of the Lord
And have become an unholy people in the sight of God

You say you are a chosen generation
A generation with a divine commission
A commission to fulfil your heavenly obligation
Yet you live lives not worthy of my compassion

You have been subdued by lust
Eager to satisfy yourselves at all cost
Not minding the summer heat or winter frost
Indeed, you are a battle not yet fought but already lost

In my divinity
I came to save humanity
An act of humility
To give you another opportunity

I was beaten for your sins
Insulted with words as sharp as pins
Just because I came to save some persons
Despite being the son of God; a prince

You crucify me a second time
With no remorse, you don't feel a dime
Everyday you commit a new crime
Then you come back with supplications as bitter as lime

The price I paid is for everybody
You that is saved, share my good news to somebody
Remember, I can raise a nation through anybody
Even that man you call a nobody

Desist from that your state of depression
Man up to that oppression
Yes, once or twice there might be temptation
You have what it takes to withstand any tribulation

I lack men that are desperate
I lack women of faith
I lack boys who will prostrate
I lack girls with a mandate

I have poured out my love
My Father's love from above
A love that is pure like a dove
A love that makes the Father relove

All I ask is draw close to me
And I will draw close to thee
For the place I want you to be
Is a place you will forever be free

Repent! for my kingdom is at hand
Who knows when you will return to the sand
Receive my spirit and get a new brand
That you may be part of heaven's worship band

My arms are wide open
Your reward awaits you in heaven
For your sins have been forgiven
And the chains that held you bound have been broken

If you think it is hard or a big case
Remember that with praise
You can embrace
God's grace
