The Bridge Poem by Ahmad Shiddiqi

The Bridge

Rating: 4.3

(dedicated to a great poet at poemhunter, Antonio Liao)

the thundering rain
falls into the pain
do we need more love
to strengthen this glove?

the typhoon flood
smash all the good
do we need more care
to measure this scar?

crocodiles, sharks
climb to the village
to seek refugees
how precious their age?

lions, rhinoceros
march to the town
to search some foods
when the sun goes down

is there a distant gap
between the hunted ones
and the wilderness hunters?
we can't find it in the map

is there a crucial problem
between the teacher and student?
why there are so much urgency
and lies inside our heart of gem?

the darker days
will come to us
when sun no more rises
all existences become ashes

the sky turned
as red as blood
we stopped and leaned
feeling unspeakably tired

the personal anguish behind
the agonized figure is reduced
tongues of fire and crisis stretched
nature was screaming in our blood

the dangerous bridge
we all shall in a hurry pass by
can we do it with our edge
fulled with angry, envy, and anxiety?

(inspired by Edvard Munch's The Scream)

AHMAD, THE PHILOSOPHER, THE ANTHROPOLOGIST, THE ASTUTE ANALYZER, TO NAME A FEW OF YOUR UNIQUE SKILLS, YOU EXAMINE WHAT IS AND ASK US: 'WHAT IF? ' YES, IT'S UP TO US, BUT OUR CONTINUING IGNORANCE WILL DETERMINE THE ENDING AND WHENCE IT COMES. WHETHER A WILD LION OR THE SO-CALLED TAME HUMAN, WE ARE MUCH ALIKE. EVEN THE LIONS ARE CAPABLE OF LOVE AND KINDNESS BUT FEW RECOGNIZE THAT. HUMANS ARE WILD CREATURES WHO MUST HAVE LAWS AND GOVERMENTS AND RELIGIONS TO CONTROL THEM, BUT HAS IT WORKED? LOTS TO WORK ON, TO ADMIT TO BEFORE A PERMANENT NEW PEACEFUL WORLD CAN BE OURS. FEAR MUST BE ABANDONED. IT IS OUR ADDICTION AND OUR DESTRUCTION. THANKS, AHMAD. I APOLOGIZE FOR MY RANTING. MY BEST, CAROL

if the hunter becomes the hunted, then i think it's time that we pray to god above for his protection and his love.
