The Aftermath Poem by Micheal Lambert

The Aftermath

Who would have thought that the time would past?
I often thought that the time would last,
Who would have thought it would come to this,
When you and I would end like this?

Heartbroken, disappointed, betrayed, hurt,
The constant sentiment I embrace because of your intentional flirt.
Your lies were timeless,
Your pretences were countless.
Your deeply arrogant and dreadful act never failed to make a mess.

A love like this I thought I would find nowhere else in existence,
But a love like this you made then sustain within my presence.
The commitments we made you broke willingly,
The deeds I thought were sacred were shared openly.
Nothing you left me that's good,
How is it possible for me to love you like I should?

I thought you cared,
I actually thought what we have would have been spared.
I thought wrong, I thought differently,
As it never occurred to you to think about our eternity.
A choice you made, for something you desired,
How dare me to say your decision was wrongly inspired.

In pain I grant you your wish,
With bruises and wounds I allow you to accomplish.
No longer will I fool myself that I know you,
Amidst all the time you came through,
It has never been clearer,
Now I really realize I was with a total stranger.
