That I Have Written Nothing Poem by Shalom Freedman

That I Have Written Nothing

THAT I HAVE WRITTEN NOTHING
Perhaps after writing thousands of words
I will at last know
That I have written nothing
Perhaps I will die
As a writer of nothing
Or more correctly
As ‘never a writer at all'
If that is the case
These words too are nothing
And I have bothered you and myself
And wasted our time for nothing
In that case I apologize,
And nonetheless hope
It is all not been for nothing
And these lines too
Are a little something
Even if very very small.
