Suspense Poem by Shawn Marie Edmiston

Suspense

Suspended

On a plane somewhere between

Heaven and Earth.

How we are here is

Of no consequence

In this moment,

The peace that encases

Our not so mortal state

Is too overwhelming to interrupt

With such tedious thoughts.

We lay here together

Not two bodies

But seen as one being

By the angels who look upon us,

Shaking their heads

Not sure what to make

Of this beautiful union,

Wondering how a thing so divine

Can be so forbidden.

Finally, they avert their gaze

Allowing us to fall back to the Earth

To seperately answer

For this perfect sin.
