Anticipation Poem by Shawn Marie Edmiston

Anticipation

Go ahead, just do it,
I've had a knife in my heart before,
The initial stab is the worst part,
And it doesn't hurt too long,
And doesn't bleed too much,
Only long enough,
To make a symbolic puddle,
To remind me,
That men can't be trusted.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem was the result of a a little drawing I had made of a knife through a heart with a puddle of blood on the floor. I think the year was 1987 and it was directed to my first husband.
