Stand Still Poem by RoseAnn V. Shawiak

Stand Still

Listening to the frustration and seeing puzzled looks
on children's faces, tears in their eyes, trying to
understand common core and failing miserably it seems.

Having seen it up close and personal, now being more
inclined than ever to get rid of it, seeing no reason
to continue teaching it.

Watching it stymie students and putting them at a stand
still, not able to do their work, smarter children being
held back by this long drawn out process.

As a former classroom teacher I agree with your assessment of this CORE program. You observed compassionately but helplessly what it is doing to students. It sounds like one of those programs assigned by administration officials, not teachers themselves. I hope you got to report your observations to someone with authority. Your poem by itself should change minds!
