Song: Lost Poem by Dave SmithWhite

Song: Lost

Beyond that smoking mountain;
Across the spiral sea.
The jet banked hard reroutin',
It's trip to destiny.
A pyroclastic fountain,
Projected from the floor?
With chance there's no accountin',
For luck obeys no law.

On the outskirts of emotion,
We heard a plaintive cry,
Beat time in the swirling ocean,
Beneath the cruel sky.
We drifted to the island,
That rose up from the beach.
The teasing shore defiant,
As always out of reach.

Lost! Lost! And double crossed;
As fate stepped in again.
Lost! Lost! We were tossed,
Like flotsam down a drain.

With the life-raft taking water,
We found another reef.
With a will that did not falter,
We made landfall with relief.
We counted out the numbered souls;
United in our grief,
Two hundred dead - an awful toll,
Yet our survivor's guilt was brief.

On a small atoll of wooded knolls,
It beggared all belief.
The captain with his maps and scrolls,
Proclaimed himself as chief.
He said he felt responsible,
For our ghastly plight.
But our actions were reprehensible,
When we banished him from sight.

Lost! Lost! We are lost.
In a life of pain.
Lost! Lost! At what cost?
We sing a strange refrain.

With shelters built of bamboo,
We scoffed the wild plum.
With yams we made a tasty roux,
And knew we'd not succumb.
I held out for rescue,
That I was sure would come.
Patience was a virtue,
But it was hard for some.

So they were moved to take the craft,
And be guided by a star.
Others decried their plan and laughed:
'Oh, what fools they are! '
I thought it brave, bold but daft,
As one they'd not convince.
But then one night they simply left,
And no-one's seen them since.

Lost! Lost! Our plea's not glossed.
We hope it's not in vain.
This bottle's note is raised, embossed,
To intrigue some searching brain.

Lost! Lost! A great impost,
On we who still remain.
Lost! Lost! A holocaust,
That drives us yet insane!
