Something/Nothing! Poem by Clarence Prince

Something/Nothing!

Rating: 4.6

I am Something
I met up with Nothing
He wasn't hard to find
I asked him what he was doing
He said, he wasn't doing anything
I asked him where he was from
He said, he was from nowhere
I asked, where's that, nowhere
He said, same place, nowhere
Then who's there I asked him
He said, he had ever been there
Nothing aside Nothing
Just a Nothing
Even so, there's hope
One day I'll be something

I am Something
For sure he's just Nothing
I asked him, if he'd known anything
He said, he knew Everything
So I asked him, who Everything was
He said, the father of everything
That's him, who's Everything
I asked him, where the father is
He said, the father is everywhere
Doing all things from nothing
By Nothing, he made everything
Yet I am still Nothing
Just a Nothing
Even so, there's hope
One day Ill be something

I am Something
You bet he is just Nothing
Here, he had got me confusing
As if I weren't already overly musing
He is Nothing, the father is Everything
So I say take me to father Everything
He said, but you are already with him
Seemly I thought doesn't Nothing cared
Then he said, he cared for all things
But never any one cares for Nothing
Other than father Everything
I am still Nothing yet
Just a Nothing
Even so, there‘s hope
One day I'll be Something

I am something, I met up nothing but I am something worthy I realize. Great work shared on. Beautiful.

Though I am nothing, my Father is everything! I feel you are stressing on the 'nothingness' of man and the 'everythingness' of God! Great thoughts!

A nice play on words and a thought provoking read. Thanks for sharing Clarence. I like another reader's comment about hope bringing these characters together.

does this verse serve to make the atheist think of God. you see I have a sure faith in Something. So I will never doubt against the something mine own eye's have seen. I need no further proof. there is something.

IT is HOPE that can create something out of nothing.Every thing is the possibility that is always present. An interesting and insightful poem.

He said, he wasn't doing anything............. this made me laugh, though i have the feeling this is not a poem to laugh at. “He said, he had ever been there Nothing aside Nothing Just a Nothing” …… …… I think you ‘want’ “besides”, not “aside”. but, maybe aside. it’s really ‘nothing’ important! I’m liking the poem so far. :) “I asked him, if he'd known anything He said, he knew Everything” ……… ……another laugh from me. but you are leading up to omnipresent, ain’t ya? well, no, THAT isn’t the right word. hmm? always-existing? - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - during my search for the ‘word’ I wanted, I found this (a Google choice) : “We know that from nothing, nothing comes. So, if there were ever a time when there was absolutely nothing in existence, then nothing would have ever come into existence. But things do exist. Therefore, since there could never have been absolutely nothing, something had to have always been in existence. That ever-existing thing is what we call God. God is the uncaused Being that caused everything else to come into existence. God is the uncreated Creator who created the universe and everything in it.” - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - NOW, I used to believe this [I was a kid; adults told me]. now I’m not so sure! but it is a difficult question: “where did everything come from? ” nothing? ? maybe; I don’t know and I DON’T CARE! that’s why I may some day/someday burn in Hell! [another thing I don’t believe in][but used to] “Here, he had got me confusing” ………… well, I think it would sound better to type: “Here, he had gotten me confused” ………… but, since you were confused, I’ll overlook the ‘error’ in composition. but it would be a shame (almost) to ruin the “confusing/musing” - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I still haven’t finished reading, but I’ve gone back to start over. in stanza one, you have these lines: “Then who's there I asked him He said, he had ever been there” …… …… I don’t think you meant “never” when you typed “ever”. I think “ever” is good, meaning “always”. God? /Nothing says she/he/it has always been “nowhere”! is this a little confusing for you OTHER READERS as well? ? at end of stanza two: “One day Ill be something” ………..you missed an apostrophe in “I’ll”. heh heh. Even “Something” is prone to make a typo or two. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - “Seemly I thought doesn't Nothing cared” …………… I’ll have to ponder this line a while. hmmm? how about “To me it seemed Nothing didn’t care”, because the next line reads: “Then he said, he cared for all things” - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - I’ve glanced at some earlier comments. I think that “Nothing” refers to Jesus, the Son of God, and Something refers to Clarence or some other Man. but I may be wrong. I like the poem very much, except for having to think too much in some spots. the back and forth dialogue, though lacking traditional punctuation is captivating, especially since it is between Nothing and Something! I’ll send this to MyPoemList and put it into my/our August showcase for PH poets. Clarence, if you want me to change anything, ask me and tell me what to change, but for now I am just going to put it into the showcase the way I read it on your poem’s page. bri :) P.S. favorite lines: “I asked him, where the father is He said, the father is everywhere Doing all things from nothing By Nothing, he made everything”
