Something Holy Poem by Joseph Narusiewicz

Something Holy

Butterflies sail over entropy
Color moves in spheres of light
Transcendent circles spiral
Ancient warriors on quiet hillsides
They rest with morning
Feathers for war
There are armies coming to Jerusalem
Sleep you children of slaughter
Crushed in the onslaught of manifest destiny
Ghosts look upon the mountains
Weary history swirls in blood
Visions where sands of the sea rise

All these chains
Can you hear the thunder?
Invent another world where insanity is silent
There is something so wrong here
Hide in forests
Run for the shelter of pleasure
The rain of karma has found us
These tribes painted with vengeance
Dispersed into myth after their land was stolen
Visit their temples
Walk through the fields of burned villages
Resolution by the throne of eternal justice

Read the Grapes of Wrath
Read Faulkner
Read the Bible
Statesmen willing to die for true convictions
We need leaders not hirelings
So tired of politics
Scientists bought by corporations to back MONEY
Love thy neighbor as thy self is called socialism
Social justice is scorned
So much prejudice and blaming the victim
I have to walk everyday and see the river
See what God has made just to stay sane

All these flags are flying
All these banners and placards
Avarice, strife and hatred so disguised
Shakespeare said so much
Now Mother Nature is in pain
Species are dying
Land corrupted
No salvation in technology
No unity with all these banners and flags
Fear seems to speak on every street corner
Division like pirate ships sailing
The question arises IS IT TOO LATE?

Something to believe in
These children need real tears
Visit the memorials
Feel the young in their early graves
No summer
Spring flowers with dreams in the wind
Heed the call of love to give them something
Something noble beyond your country
Beyond silver and gold
Something untarnished
Something real and universal
Something Holy

If the children can’t see hope in the world
If leaders are letting them down
If schools and institutions are failing
Let them see love in us
Let them see hope in us
Let them see we are trying
If you’re a Christian don’t just wait for heaven
We are here to help until the day we go home
Lets strengthen the things that remain
Lets not just take care of our own
The least you do to one of these you do unto me
Lets let the love in our souls shine

Lets let the world know there is Something Holy
