Soldier On Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Soldier On

Soldier On

Some of the Ex-soldiers
Have written one play
And run it on stage…

They show their lost arms, legs
And the wounds on shoulders
As well as sides, faces.

Like experts, they speak
Of sickness and gang on
Disease called "gangrene."

They talk of the need for
Drafting and fighting
Examples include WWII
And end in recent wars.

I, too, was a soldier
In fact, an officer…

I never held a gun
Never killed, not a shot;
But still disagree
With comments that I see
On the wars, fight and kill.

My questions are many
The first, for starting:
"Tell me whose war is it? "

Hitler's or Bush's, Trump's?
Or the King's or Queen's?
Or maybe Ronald Reagan's?

Haven't they all proved
To have been devil, wrong?

Therefore, I request
The ones in "Soldier on"
To remove the sign of
Hate and kill and disgust…
