Snowfall In The Night For Fabrizio Frosini
The snow had just begun to fall,
thick snowflakes falling
past the restaurant window,
when you whispered, leaning forward,
oblivious to the crowd
around us, when you whispered those words,
and the feathery snow kept falling and falling,
when you whispered to me alone,
you whispered in a dream-voice,
'I want you tonight, ' and the snow
was shining as it fell, and I nodded
as in a dream. Then I grabbed your hand,
saying, 'Tonight I want you, ' as the snow
softly covered the earth, and the dark air
was shining with promises....
over four repetitions, and the secondary theme is the snowfall, repeated five times. This fragment was inspired by NOCTURNAL SNOWING by Fabrizio Frosini, who has posted his poem in its Italian original and in his English translation at his site. This scene does not occur in his poem, which concerns the memory of the relationship much later. I feel very close to his poem and wanted to pay homage to it by adding this prior scene of the beginning of the love story. I filtered his inspiration through my imagination.
Consider it the interplay of two poets, the first poet wrote the basic melody, the second wrote variations on it.

When I read it, the association with a musical theme [just a light piece of music, not those elaborate pieces like in Rameau or Gluck's operas..] was right there.. and it took its shape in a few minutes..
