Snowfall For Cigeng Poem by Daniel Brick

Snowfall For Cigeng

Rating: 5.0

Today the snow fell for hours
across southern Minnesota. And it did not
hesitate for even a moment until everything was
covered in thick, pure white flakes. Oh, how close
Heaven seemed as that snow closed the gap
between earth and sky! Through it I walked
three-legged like the third figure in the riddle
the Sphinx posed to bold Oedipus, my cane
steadying my steps as it discovered buried links
of a vanished pathway. I must trust so many things:
the ground's firm base, the mild air, the intelligence
of a mere mortal, the sky looming over me, with an alien
beauty I try to comprehend. And I know, you too see
the alien sky of winter, and it comforts me beyond language
to know this. There is no fear inside me nor is there any
inside you, even if a new Sphinx posed a new riddle.

The active and open mind brings the beauty and wonder of nature to another level. To know others have the same experience is heartening. Wonderfully written. I am not looking forward to being on all fours again tho.: -)

Trivial things do by your pen's fantasy take a face of a ''personality'' and become basis to think further on important ones.

Yes, poets are sensitive to those trivial things because like the seed they can grow into a mighty thing like the lordly oak tree. But you have to intuit has such potential because some trivial things give birth to trivia.

Fantastic poem, Daniel! Your imagery of nature and your struggle to walk through the snow brought you together - one with nature - and took you into a higher dimension where beauty surpassed the Sphinx and Oedipus both. Just an amazing, almost spiritual event happening in the simplicity of snow falling across Minnesota. Definitely a 10+! Thank you Daniel for allowing me to take each step through the snow with you, a wonderful mind experience! RoseAnn

Wonderful poem indeed on the theme nature and your friendship- - When the gap between the earth and sky closes, it feels like heaven. You have trust in so many things- - - the grounds firm base, the mild air, the intelligence of a mere mortal, the beauty of sky looming over you, that alien beauty you try to comprehend. You get back your faith and feel absolute bliss.

From an ordinary Natural occurrence of a snow fall, you have shifted into a lofty theme...... the Greek mythological sphinx and her slayer Oedipus! Standing in the celestial plane of the snow covered land, with your mind raised to a higher level, you grew as bold as Oedipus, never fearing any riddle, a sphinx might raise! Nature's beauty can sometimes lift us to such exalted planes and invest us with such extra terrestrial dimensions! A great write!

I was surprised (a very pleasant kind) to see the poetic snowfall in Minnesota! The purified world was so vivid in my mind as if I were also walking there in the real snow beyond my border. Thank you Daniel for the beautiful poem.I treasure it.
