Simplest Things Poem by David Thomas

Simplest Things

Rating: 5.0

The rain pours so slowly
when your mind is lost,
between the world of dreams and the eyesores
of reality
to be reminded of the things now passed
is like looking through an ancient family's photo album,
You're not always sure what it is you are seeing
but you know in your heart what you see was real
days like these where the rain will fall hardest
the sun will shine brightest
tucked gingerly behind the thinnest and thickest
of cloud covers there are,
I am lost in convictions I once held
and overwhelmed by the foresight of a straight road before my eyes
I like where I am going, I like how I am going,
but at the very bottom of the heart I feel
troubled.

Then I remember her smile.

so sweet and simple,
as if every good thing in this world had been
condensed into one tiny but large
beautiful thing,
and then I miss her. The woman of my dreams
who I let fall in the mud for no reason at all,
the woman who came to my rescue time
and time again, no end in sight
and battled things out with me-
I remember her, and only for an instance do I
allow myself to cry,
that is why I love the rain
so that I may mourn my poor choices
in the utmost secrecy.

Beautiful, and heart-rending. I could feel your emotions as I read each line. Very well done.
