Silkworm Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Silkworm

Silkworm

At home he said goodbye to his wife
-too early for the same for the kids
-he bent and caressed them on the heads

She spent most of nigh finishing
-baking bread and packing fresh food
-most of all was sacking roasted nuts
-set aside much Talkhan and Sohan
-both of last were sweet and natural
-their basis were oil seeds, mulberry

Both knew he would have on his path
-the chance to fresh fruits
-among them mulberry

Local faiths and cultures demanded
-plant the fruit trees
-most trees were of the mulberries
-in them were multiple benefits
-they needed less water
-grew tall, spread and gave shade
-the leaves were for silkworms and
-fruits for the birds and the guests

Not written but verbal local laws clear
-planting is for all and right job
-using is for keeping wildlife live
-and feeding passersby with no charge
-this is how everyone was assured of a life

Came engine, then the cars and trucks and asphalt
-died old roads, gravel and trees, springs and the wells
-died silkworms, freshness and the birds, love and care
-died the past livelihood and packing husband's food
-death, though shame, came like ash and landed to grey
-our minds and our lives and the joy of varieties
-now we are all robots and work with batteries…

Having seen part of past…
I miss and I miss and I miss that!
