She Thought Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

She Thought

She Thought

Could not help, overheard
They spoke in airport
I asked them: “Can I join? ”
And…did so…

I was born in Iran
Raised and joined many sides
Did a lot and was part
To actions-reactions.

She knew Iran well
(She claimed)

Curious I sought, why…
Romanian, her husband had a job.
(In later times of the Shah.)

She was like old German in Lima
He spoke of Hitler:
“Great man…”
Felt honoured: “as a child, I shook hand with leader…”

In airport this lady
The learned, as she thought
Talked of Shah, Ceaușescu and Saddam
The three perfections; good leaders…

She saw the good points,
Positive
And no doubt she was right.

But what about full picture and final?

Time was short as shared life
My plan to listen…not discuss.
