Samovar Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Samovar

Samovar

Was born, named
-a Shiite
-on land of warriors
-and within the borders
-that has meant problem
-from birth…

The land left to Afghans…

Is learned, ambitious…
-though failed his Doctorate…
-in a way, unable…

Now lives in the "village"
-settled in "settlement"
- "Kanata"
-possibly forgotten cultural
-truth of an Afghan

He dreams to become
-a leader, back at home

Must have leaked his brakes…
-to forget backgrounds…
-stories that played example:
- "Rejected was person
-to enter the village
-he wanted to become guest
-of mayor! "

I tell him, expecting
- (as smart as he is)
-he gets it thoroughly
-with no need to repeat.

I tell him with good will:
- "Try to unite the divided country
-of Pashto and Uzbek and Tajik
-and others…too many…
-in acting as vector
-with same aim, direction:
- "We are one, regardless
-our past and divisions…"

He listens but being talkative
-confused in dreams; action-less…
-in minutes he forgets…
-as if he never heard…

He forced me to speak of Shiites
-and wondered when I damned Safavids
- … just because of mullahs selected…

Then forced me to enter the details
-I told him how Mahmood found a cause
-to become brutal; shed blood
- "Thanks to Shiite Mullah…"

Felt obliged to go deep…
-explain and make it clear:
- "Socrates, also Shams started with angles
-to solve a problem by a deed or the need
-and reasons and causes …"

Then made it too simple; selected example
-and went in with head first; explained:
- "Let us see Samovar…"

"Our vision depends on the place located
-POV, our angle…
-in front you see art of mounting
-tap…faucet…
-and the base for fire or furnace
-with chimney, its handle
-and…and…and…
-but if on other side
-you see a flatted soft metal."

We spoke of place and point
-where we sit, what we see…

Saw no need to tell him
-of meaning: "Self warming"
-was out of intention, discussion!
