Roxanne (2014) Poem by Weldon Davis

Roxanne (2014)

I saw you
By the wayside today
Wearing a sweatshirt
And daisy dukes
Posted on Eastern blvd
My hands were tied
(Literally)
My heart lurched
Wanting to help you
Wanting to save you
From destruction
From yourself

Thinking about a
Sting song
Yes I am
I don't know your
Name anymore
So I'll say Roxanne

You never had to
Sell your body
To the night
As long as
I was around
Ya knight in
Shining armor

Naked
Nothing I can do
I guess that's just karma
I guess that's just heaven
I guess that's just hell
I lose years of my life
Locked up
These tears
Tell
No lies

I'm not one of those
Heartless guys
Who would pimp you

Time stands still
Cause I'm
So far from fun
We used to be
So close
To a life together
What have we become?

Enemies it seems
I still love you
Damn it! !
I
Can't
Change

I don't even
Know you anymore
So I call you
A new name
Roxanne
