Modern Day Hero Poem by Weldon Davis

Modern Day Hero

Rating: 4.8

They send our boys
To die like dogs
In the Arabian swelter
Picking out roadside bombs
No shelter from
The wrath of Allah or
The loving arms of Jesus either
Underlying motives
I suspect OPEC and
Halliburton
I'm no rocket scientist
I'm a word surgeon
Getting to the heart of the matter
The truth of it all
Hey! !
Hero Hero hear them call
Your SSN# over Taps
When you fall
On the battlefield
I never expected it to get so
Personal
One day you're at the bar
Drinking a beer
With G.I. Joe
Or Janey
The next day you see
Their photo on CNN
Draped behind a waving flag
Remember that! !
Remember those who've died
In the desert
All for an oil vein

Totally intense and amazing! Love the stark reality of your words and emotion, telling it like it is! Truth is always so poignant, vivid and intense, love this poem. Love our Vets, often write of them and their service. Another 10! Thank you for sharing the truth. RoseAnn

Mr Snyder thank you for the compliment, as a lifelong resident of a military town (Fayetteville, NC) I've seen countless stories where young men and women join up for glory only to find it's not quite the dream that was sold to them. Each soldiers sacrifice is ultimate and with this poem I wanted to pay homage to all those we have lost
