Reunion At Iitk Poem by Surajit Basu

After the transition
Of twenty-five years duration
Since the convocation,
And the subsequent separation,
Here's a little reflection
Of our life's progression:

We've been through global navigation,
Some through higher education
And another convocation,
Finding the right profession,
Academic and corporate innovation,
Public administration,
Growing in an organisation,
Doing a PowerPoint presentation!

Changes to the personal condition:
Marriage celebration,
Genetic proliferation,
Parental elation,
(Then some confusion
And then apprehension!)
Familiar frustration,
Midlife disaffection,
With aperiodic peregrination.

With a deeper realisation
Of the real world's interconnection,
Trying for Maslow's self-actualization,
With a bit of mid-tier inflation,
And uncontrollable depilation -

And yet, on the occasion
Of this reunification,
As we joined this diversion
From the daily desperation,
We found that old connection.

We are struck by the revelation:
Through this long duration
There has been no transformation!
Untouched by external sophistication,
We are still the same generation.

We now have an obligation,
To help the next generation.
Charged with this mission,
Let's work with cohesion,
To bring others' dreams to fruition
To enrich our great institution.
