Re-Thinking Green Literature And Our Connections Poem by Bijay Kant Dubey

How did we go on selling birds in stupidity market,
which the good author talks of,
how our flats and skyscrapers,
how life pulsating on the streets and footpaths,
how in fleets of flats?

Now after having a stint with pastoralism, love of nature,
we forgot it in the pursuit for materialistic pleasures
which but needed we to some extent,
but while amassing wealth, going after to conquer
as a proud master of the universe,
taking into our stride,
forgot we our ehics.

But baffled with the spill and ruin,
loot, plunder and exploitation,
cycle and re-cycling
we are again going to have our tryst with
eco-criticism, green criticism and studies re-thinking the same,
green theory and ethics in it all.


Mindless cutting of trees, denuding of hills,
bulldozing of trees through earth excavating machines,
opening of factories
where will this
urbanization, concretization lead to,
when will come to a stop,
shall we not lose the eco-balance?

Where will the malls, complexes,
mega cities and metropolis lead to ultimately,
have you thought it about?
Where are we going indeed?
Where will this devastation lead to ultimately
if we grow it not cautious, quite on the guard of?

Rampant industrialization must come to an end
keeping in mind green ethics
what we ought to have done as for
saving this earth,
but nonpluseed feel we,
at the crossroads
when environmental hazards seem to take us over.

Green earth, the poetry of green earth,
its greenery, greenization,
how to write, re-write it?
Green consciousness, how to develop in us,
how to work for its furtherance, how to facilitate it greenization?

How to carry out that sense in our literature
when we are facing climate change and health hazards,
when our existence seems to be on the brink of existence
from where there is no escape, there is no looking back on that,
isn't it?
