Requiem For A Tragedy Poem by Robert Mahoney

Requiem For A Tragedy

Feels like I've seen this play before
Because again I see this same familiar
Tragedy play out before my eyes
The lead stays the same, but the rest is double-cast
Same mistakes, same plot, same inevitable demise

Why can't there be a happy ending?
Why is it always the same?
I'm getting sick of this same old story
Wish I could change how it ends
Wish i could re-write the end of this tragic requiem

Feels like I've heard this song before
Because again I hear this same familiar
Melody play back inside my head
The words stay the same, but the cadence is unique
Same chorus, same hook, same heart-breaking end

Why can't there be a happy ending?
Why is it always the same?
I'm getting sick of this same old story
Wish I could change how it ends
Wish i could re-write the end of this tragic requiem

No happily ever after for me
The story's set in stone
But how I long to break this cycle
Sick of drying tears after each scene
God what I would give to hear a different song

Why can't there be a happy ending?
Why is it always the same?
I'm getting sick of this same old story
Wish I could change how it ends
Wish I could re-write the end of this tragic requiem

wish life could be something more than a tragic requiem
