Remember The Roses Poem by Amanda Lukas

Remember The Roses

The mind's a whirlwind sometimes,
bringing things to its front when their place is in back
and I'm so busy now-a-days,
with this job and that job
and worries and fears
and bills.

I forgot to call my sister back.
It's been over a week
and I know she's home with my two-month-old nephew,
who I've met only twice,
but I'm busier than a honey-bee,
except not too much honey to show.

I got the package you sent to me, friend,
(weeks ago now)
and I've been meaning to write,
But it slips my mind and comes up at the most
inconvenient of times.

The mind sometimes pushes to the back,
things that should be smack in the front -
the top of the to-do list.

So, friend, here is my apology for not getting in touch sooner,
I assure you, I meant to,
but my mind these days seems to be
continuously preoccupied with
'remember to water the roses',
which would be fine, I suppose,
except I have no rose garden.

(Dedicated to Suzanne, a dear friend whom I wish I would have brought to front of mind sooner.)

You showed your feelings in a very singular way, I really liked mainly theses lines: The mind's a whirlwind sometimes, / bringing things to its front when their place is in back
