Rembrandt's Student's Female Nude Poem by gershon hepner

Rembrandt's Student's Female Nude

A standing female nude has been corrected
by Rembrandt. She has shapely buns
the artist quite closely had inspected
while watching in the cloisters naughty nuns.

Inspired by a drawing of a standing female nude which was drawn by one of Rembrandt’s students but corrected by Rembrandt. The drawing belongs to a gallery in Budapest and was exhibited at the Getty Museum in an exhibition of drawings by Rembrandt and his students. When I read this poem to an elderly Jewish couple who had asked me what I thought about the appellate ruling concerning a young girl whom the Court decided should be deemed to be Jewish and therefore allowed to attend the Jewish Free School in London they declared, good-naturedly, to be sure: “You said that, not Rembrandt! ”
