Rain Poem by TMA

Rain

The rain outside is falling
And the sky above me is grey
And the cold is just appalling
Why did I come out today?
Started hours ago a journey –
Yet no symptoms of arriving
All the cars are stationary;
Only the rain is driving.

The rain outside is pounding
On the car roof with tiny fists
Did God let loose Heaven’s fountains
That it should rain as hard as this?
Angry mobbers in the heavens
Now throw down hailstones us to lynch
All around us – engines revving
But nobody moves an inch.

Umbrella vendors all ’round
Appear, as though out of thin air
The rain’s roaring is almost drowned
As they call out, hawking their ware.
Now the water comes in torrents
Like when a heavenly dam leaks
The thunder’s like a feared parent –
Everyone hushes when he speaks.

The rain outside is howling
The raindrops incessantly drum
I fantasise about crawling
Into my blankets snug and warm…
All depressed and duly sheltered,
It’s the sunshine that we covet –
We are all under the weather;
We could hardly be above it…
